A good weekend of racing saw Formula 1 back at the Nurburgring in Germany and the Indycar series was in Toronto, Canada. Mark Webber gets his first pole and his first win, with a very strong victory. Sebastien Vettel came in second, and Team Red Bull is looking like they are going to be a very strong team in the second half of the season. Brawn salvaged a 5th and 6th after a day of tire problems. Over in Toronto, Dario Franchitti claimed the victory, after getting a gift in the pit stops over some questionable officiating. The big news was that Paul Tracy was back, and had a great run going until he was taken out by Helio Castroneves. Other former champ car stars Alex Tagliani, Will Power and Justin Wilson had good days at times on a track they are very familar with. We also talk a bit of F1 and Indycar news. A big month and a big podcast. Jason and Jeff talk about two of the biggest races of the racing season, the Monaco GP in Formula 1 and the Indianapolis 500 for the Indycar Series. Both races usually have a lot of hype, but don't provide all the thrills one would hope for. Monaco saw another dominant day for Brawn GP with another win for Jensen Button followed by a second place for Ruebens Barrichello. Ferrari is getting closer to the top with a solid run for both cars finishing in 3rd and 4th. Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel both had tough days, and former Champcar champ Sebastian Bourdais got a solid 8th with a point. At Indy saw the return of some old favorites in Paul Tracy, Oriol Servia and Nelson Phillippe. The day was dominated by Team Penske and Team Target, but at the end Helio Castroneves danced his way into victory lane, well team Target faded late in the race. After a bit of a delay Jason and Jeff are back with a review of the Spanish Grand Prix. Another great day for Brawn GP, and the miracle season continues. Jensen Button comes across first, but a little controversy amongst the team due to a change in pit strategy that put him in front of Ruebens Barrichello. Red Bull also has a good day coming in 3rd and 4th. Ferrari is starting to improve, and McLaren takes a step back. A stunning last few laps, that saw Massa cruise to an easy victory, well Sebastien Vettel and Timo Glock played a role in Hamilton's championship bid. This week we review both the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix and the Non Points Indy Car race from Surfers Paradise in Australia. China is up first, and not a lot of excitement, as it played out as a typical F1 race, Lewis Hamilton won the race handily and stretched his points lead to 7 over Felipe Massa, who finished second after running most of the race in third, and swapping spots with his Teammate Kimi Raikkonen near the end of the race, is what would account for the most intrigue in the race. We saw Indy Car in Australia for what might be the final time, a great day for Aussie Ryan Briscoe, but a sad day for the other Aussie in Will Power. Justin Wilson comes through big at Belle Isle. Newman/Hass/Lanigan booked the IRL season with another race victory, this time for Justin Wilson. After a controversial call where Helio Castroneves blocked Justin, the IRL gave Justin first place, and he never looked back. Justin had a fast car all race, and was the fastest at the end of the day when it count. A good day for the other former Champ car teams, with Oriol Servia just missing out on a podium, a strong run by Bruno Junquiera who made up 17 places, and productive day for Will Power after some mishaps in the race. Alex Tagliani made his debut in the Indycar series, and posted some fast times, but ultimately had to retire due to mechanical. The Championship is still on between Scott Dixon and Castroneves, after another off day for Dixon. We break down the race, as well as touch on some news around the series. After a week off the Indy Car series is back on the road course at Sonoma. What was hoped would be a good day for the former Champ car teams turned out to be a bit of a let down. Wrong pit strategies caught some out such as Justin Wilson, Garham Rahal and Bruno Junquiera, well ho hum day for KV racers Will Power and Oriol Servia. The championship fight is down to two drivers, with Helio Castroneves and Scott Dixon, with Castroneves getting his first victory of the season, and Dixon having an abnormally off day. Jason and Jeff recap another exciting Champ car race, this time at the historic Mont Tremblant in Quebec. The race started with a few problems for some of the front runners, but then settles into a fast pace. Midway through the race, rain came out, and provided a lot of excitement for Drivers and fans. Robert Doornbos gets his first victory in Champ car, but a little bit of bad blood with Bourdais. We discuss all of this and more in this weeks podcast.
